Artist Statement

"Awards & Rewards" is a reflection on the layered experience of motherhood—how it reshapes identity, value, and visibility. Set in an imagined trophy room, the scene is populated with emblems of the woman’s achievements: a life fully lived, marked and remembered. Yet the woman herself is nearly imperceptible, dissolving into the background, as though absorbed by the very legacy she’s built. She stands beside her child, who radiates in brilliant blue—the new centerpiece, the unquestionable focus.

This work is not a critique, but a contemplation. It holds space for the joy of motherhood while also acknowledging its quiet tensions: the shifting sense of self, the intimacy and isolation, the reverence and the erasure. It asks, in its own soft way—what becomes of the woman when the world only sees the child?
